Youth Program “GeoEurasia-2018”

From the 6th till the 8th of February in Moscow, in the framework of the international geological and geophysical conference and exhibition “Advanced Exploration and Development Technologies. GeoEurasia 2018”, the Youth Program was held. The platform of the International Trade Center. Gathered more than 120 students, graduates of leading petroleum and technical universities of Russia: Lomonosov Moscow State University, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University), BaumanMoscow State Technical University, Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State Geological Prospecting University, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University), Saint Petersburg Mining University, National Research Technical University “Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISIS)”. Organizers of the Youth Program were the SPE student chapters of  Lomonosov Moscow State University and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research Univesity). Saturated program lasted for three days.

Program on the 6th of February was aimed at development of professional and personal skills of students. The program started with the performance of leading Russian expert in visual thinking, KaterinaBogina (founder of the consulting company Insight Group) with presentation “Professional success from the university stage”.Katerina told what skills are necessary for a student and a young specialist, how to benefit ultimately from studying at university, how to carefully choose your career path, and also how to grow and develop during whole life and find your professional place. Then YaroslavaOrlova (coordinator of non-commercial projects of SPE Moscow Office) took floor. She told the students about opportunities and benefits, which the society gives students, including scholarships, mentorship, conferences. The third speaker of the day was the specialist of Baker Hughes, AsselSalimova. Students got advice on how to correctly construct the CV of a lawyer, engineer, director, manager, economist and any other specialist. All the recommendations helped to gain skills of making an attractiveCV and successful passing of personal appointments. The day of trainings was finished by NiyazGarayev, who told about first steps of making a career in petroleum industry. He shared his experience, gave valuable advice and recommendations. The students were impressed by the speakers of the Youth Program first day. After the speakers’ presentations the evening of the Youth Program continued with the authors’ songs concert.

On the second day of the Youth Program, the 7th of February, the intellectual competition “PetroOlympic Games” was held, in which six student teams and two teams of young specialists from Schlumberger, Halliburton, Salym Petroleum, BakerHughes, LULOIL-Engineering, BritishPetroleum, SPLITparticipated. The game consisted of three rounds, at which the participants had to answer questions regarding technological chain of petroleum production. Prize winners were awarded with valuable gifts by the sponsor “Center of Marine Research of MSU”. The evening continued with the buffet and the concert.

On the 8th of February, the Career Pathway Fair was held in the framework of the Youth Program. This event is aimed at attraction of active students to companies. Participating companies were Schlumberger, Halliburton, Repsol, Center of Marine Research of MSU, Skoltech, Institute of the Earth Physics. The students learned internship and employment opportunities in the companies. The students could find appropriate positions and submit their CVs.

International Trade Center for three days was the platform of communication between students and professionals of petroleum industry.

The Youth Program of “GeoEurasia-2018” is a platform for development of cooperation between students and specialists of petroleum industry, spreading new ideas and sharing experience. The Program is planned to be held annually in the framework of the conference and exhibition “Advanced Exploration and Development Technologies. GeoEurasia”.

Organizers of the Youth Program are grateful to the Center of Seismic Data Analysis for the provided platform, Center of Marine Research for sponsoring the intellectual competition “PetroOlympicGames”, and also representatives of companies and experts for the opportunity to organize one of the most interesting youth events in petroleum industry.
