SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference

Posted on 30.11.2018

From 15th to 17th of October, 2018, SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference was held at the Holiday Inn Moscow Sokolniki Hotel, which is attended annually by experts from around the world, industry experts, representatives of the major service and mining companies in the world and students from Russian universities.

SPE Russian Petroleum Technology Conference, which has become traditional, has been held in Russia since 2006. Every year the event gains all new force and significance among industry professionals thanks to the unique opportunity to exchange experience and ideas in a non-commercial non-competitive environment, to establish business contacts with both domestic and foreign colleagues. In 2018, Moscow became the center of attraction for people from all over the world, arousing interest in Russia and various aspects of its development.

SPE Russian Oil and Gas Technical Conference is a unique technical event aimed primarily at the exchange of knowledge, which allows specialists in various fields to make presentations and listen to speeches from authoritative colleagues from Russia and other countries. An extensive youth program was also traditionally held, within the framework of the conference, targeting both young professionals and students of specialized universities.

The panel session, which opened the conference, was held under the motto “Digital Energy: Expectations vs. Reality». During the interview with the leaders and experts of mining, service and IT companies, professional oil and gas journalists tried to find answers to current questions on the digitalization of the petroleum industry.

One of the key areas of the 2018 conference was the introduction of new high-performance technologies that would meet the technological challenges, and also allow us to achieve not only the desired result, but also reduce time, reduce costs without losses in production rates.

This year’s conference program traditionally included 24 technical sessions, knowledge sharing sessions and round tables on already traditional topics: well construction, hard-to-recover reserves, production, modeling, development of oil and gas fields, geology and geophysics, and other invariably relevant topics. Special attention at the event was paid to the trends in the development of the oil and gas industry, the introduction of intelligent technologies and the development of native software development.

It is also worth mentioning, that among the speakers was President of SPE International 2018, Sami Al Nuaim, Chairperson of the Moscow SPE Section — Anton Ravilievich Ablaev, Regional Director of SPE Russia and the Caspian Ayzhana Zhusupbekova. In addition, students, undergraduates and graduate students of Gubkin Russian State University of oil and gas delivered presentations during various sessions.

The Moscow office successfully organized and held such a significant event, as evidenced by the positive feedback from the conference participants. Within the Conference, a volunteer program was organized under the leadership of the Gubkin University SPE Student Chapter. 33 volunteers did a great work, such as assistance in preparing for the events and at technical sessions, coordinating delegates throughout the conference and much more. The program was attended by students of Gubkin University and Moscow State University. Participants gained invaluable experience of communication with leading experts of oil and gas companies, as well as got enriched with knowledge of modern innovations in the industry.

Another innovation this year was the mobile application of the conference, developed jointly by the professional section of SPE and the company Gazprom Neft PJSC. In this regard, I would like to express gratitude for the work done. The application allowed participants to follow the program, create their own schedule, ask questions, receive notifications and much more.

Within the SPE Russian Oil and Gas Technical Conference, a regional competition of student works was held, the winners of which would take part in an international competition to be held in 2019 in Calgary, Canada, within the International Conference SPE ATCE 2019.

I would like to express my special gratitude to the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, as well as to the SPE Moscow Section, which once again provided an excellent opportunity to become part of a significant event in the oil and gas industry for students, specialists, and company representatives.
