On the 24th of October, 2019, the president of SPE International 2020, Shauna Noonan and the Regional Director of the SPE of the Russian-Caspian region, Aizhana Jussupbekova visited Gubkin University.
The guests met with Viktor Georgievich Martynov, the rector of the university, and Anatoly Borisovich Zolotukhin, the advisor to the rector.
The meeting discussed issues of the general level of education in oil and gas universities around the world due to the ongoing transformation of the energy industry. The President of SPE International 2020 noted the importance of training highly qualified industry professionals, as well as creating a positive reputation of the industry. At the same time, the high role of Gubkin University was noted, which actively cooperates with leading academic institutions all around the world and conducts training of representatives from 83 regions of Russia and 70 countries of the world.
In addition, the rector of Gubkin University put forward the initiative to establish a new category of universities that specialize in oil and gas and energy. This rating will contribute to the effective monitoring of the quality of training of oil and gas industry engineers around the world, as well as the creation of training programs at world universities in the oil and gas and energy industries. Shauna Noonan supported this initiative and also expressed her desire to provide assistance from SPE International in this matter.
An excursion to the Center for Marine Drilling and the Center for field development control was organized for guests. The virtual learning environment provides students of various specialties with the opportunity to interact and solve assigned tasks in a team. The modern equipment of such centers allows training specialists capable of operating in the most difficult production conditions. The guests noted the high technical level of these centers and the importance of the experience gained for future specialists.
In addition, a meeting was held with activists of the Gubkin section of the SPE. Students spoke about the structure and activities of the student organization, about ongoing projects and the results achieved. The main attention was paid to the 11th International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress «Oil and Gas Horizons», which will be held in November at the Gubkin University. Then, Shauna Noonan spoke to the activists and spoke about her life, career and about the profession of an oil engineer as an international one, which involves interaction with specialists from all over the world. The president of SPE International 2020 expressed her opinion on the future of the oil and gas industry and shared how she combines family and professional life. To top it off, Shauna Noonan answered questions of interest.
