Posted on 12.08.2018
From 30 July to 3 August Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (NRU) opened its doors to more than 80 participants and lecturers of International Educational Summer School. Summer school was opened by the rector of Gubkin University Victor Georgievich Martynov. He welcomed all the participants of the school, expressed his gratitude to the lecturers for participation in the program and wished them good luck in the future accomplishments. This year, the Summer School was taught in the framework of the UTFORSK program with the direct support of the universities of Stavanger and Molde. Summer schools were divided into three areas: «Technologies for Effective and Safe Arctic Development», «Arctic Logistics» and «Modern Technologies for Well Construction.» The school was attended by 60 foreign students from 18 countries and 19 universities, such as Stavanger University, Molde University, Leoben University, Balamand University, University of Belgrade, China Petroleum University and others. All lectures were held at the Rosneft Offshore Drilling Center in English. 28 lecturers from 6 countries of the world delivered their lectures. Lecturers were teachers of Russian and foreign universities, as well as specialists from large oil and gas companies. In the afternoon, participants attended general lectures on the most relevant topics of the oil and gas industry, and after lunch were divided into directions. Participants of the Summer School «Technologies for Effective and Safe Arctic Development» attended lectures on modern technologies and challenges in the Arctic shelf development, high-tech («smart») wells, finite element analysis of offshore structures and inertia forces in subsea production systems, and also learned about innovative technologies in the High North. During the Summer School «Arctic Logistics», aspects such as the development of hydrocarbon resources and Arctic offshore logistics, Arctic navigation through the Northern Sea Route, and security systems for facilities located in the Arctic were covered. For the participants of the Summer School «Modern Technologies of Well Construction» lectures were given on modern drilling equipment used in well construction, efficient drilling with the use of traditional and new drilling rigs in the modern digital world, and a case-game on horizontally directed drilling of wells was conducted using the latest equipment of Rosneft’s Offshore Drilling Center. In addition to lectures within the framework of the Summer School, two working meetings were held on grants with representatives of the Stavanger University and the Molde University. At the end of the International Educational Summer School, participants who attended all the lectures were given the appropriate certificates. The saturated technical program of the Summer School was accompanied by an interesting cultural program. The guests of the capital visited the Red Square, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy, the Ostankino TV Tower, and strolled along the main pedestrian streets of the city and cruised the Moscow River. 12 volunteers assisted in organizing the activities of the Summer School — students of Gubkin University, who helped to get used to the guests at the university, and also accompanied them during excursions around Moscow. All the participants and teachers were extremely pleased with the level of organization and attention given to them by the organizers and volunteers of the Summer School.
